About this policy
Klose By, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“Klose,” “we,” or “us”), operates Klose, a nearby dating app intended for adults age 18 and older in the United States. Contact us at support@joinklose.com.
This draft describes the current app and this website. It explains information we collect, how we use and share it, and your choices. Location and dating preferences can be sensitive personal information, even when location coordinates are rounded.
What we collect
- Account and profile: phone number for sign-in codes; birth date to enforce the 18+ requirement and calculate age; first name or nickname; whether you choose to display your name; gender; the genders and ages you want to see; discovery distance; and an optional recovery email. The email is stored but is not yet verified or used by an automated recovery flow.
- Photos and screening: your selected profile photo, pending uploads, submitted profile details, and screening decisions and short reasons. We also store approval, verification, hiding and ban status.
- Peep location: when you start or refresh a Peep, the app requests your current location while in use. It rounds latitude and longitude to four decimal places before sending them to our server; the server rounds them again. These rounded coordinates can still indicate a small area and may reveal where you are. We do not collect a continuous background location trail.
- Nearby encounters: the pair of accounts shown to each other in discovery, the most recent encounter time, and a flag used to respect the “Right here” distance preference. These support “Earlier today.” The encounter record does not store coordinates.
- Optional hidden contacts: if you grant Contacts access and select people to hide from, the app normalizes their phone numbers and hashes them on your device. Only the selected phone-number hashes are uploaded—not contact names or your raw address book. We compare them with hashes of registered users’ phone numbers. Hashes remain linkable information, not guaranteed anonymous data.
- Interactions: signals and their expiry, signal-limit events, matches, messages, read times, temporary chat presence, blocks, reports (reason, optional note, and any linked match), notification delivery records and administrative actions.
- Notifications and technical information: Expo push tokens if you enable push notifications in a supported build. The app checks platform and whether it runs on a physical device to configure notifications. Our hosting, authentication, messaging and app-delivery providers may process IP addresses, device/browser or app information, request times and security or delivery logs as part of providing their services.
- Support: your email address and the information you choose to send when you contact us. Please do not email passwords, verification codes or unnecessary sensitive information.
The optional passcode lock stores a salted code hash and settings locally in your device’s secure storage. Klose does not send your passcode to its server. Optional Face ID is handled by the operating system; Klose does not receive your Face ID template.
How we use information
We use information to sign you in, enforce adult eligibility, operate your profile, apply mutual discovery preferences, find nearby people, deliver private signals, create mutual matches, provide chat and notifications, respond to support and reports, and prevent abuse. We also use it to enforce blocks, account restrictions and usage limits, and to investigate safety issues.
We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising. This website has no advertising pixels or optional analytics scripts added by Klose.
Photo and name checks
Before publishing a new photo or name, we send it through automated checks provided by OpenAI. Name and image moderation checks look for inappropriate content. After image moderation passes, a photo-quality check asks whether the photo contains exactly one human face that is clear and reasonably large in the frame, and whether it is a real photo rather than a drawing, screen capture or photograph of another photo.
These checks are used for safety and photo quality, not to identify you, match your face to an identity, or build a face template. They do not prove identity, age or trustworthiness. Klose retains the decision and a short reason, not the detailed face analysis. The app reduces photos to no more than 512 pixels before upload.
By choosing to upload after seeing the in-app consent notice, you consent to this processing of your photo and name by our screening provider. A photo is required to finish a profile; if you do not want this processing, do not upload. You can delete your account or contact support.
Rejected uploads are deleted. If a check fails or times out, the new photo remains pending and is not shown to others; the app retries. An existing approved photo may remain visible while its replacement is checked. A user without an approved face photo is hidden from discovery.
Our vision request disables storage of the API response. That setting does not mean the provider keeps no data: provider security and abuse-monitoring retention may still apply under its terms and our service configuration.
Service providers
- Supabase: account authentication, database, private photo storage, server functions and live app updates. The app’s primary project is hosted in the United States (Ohio region).
- Twilio Verify: phone verification text messages for sign-in and account-deletion confirmation.
- OpenAI: the automated name, image-content and face-photo suitability checks described above.
- Expo: app development/delivery infrastructure and push-notification delivery in supported builds.
- Apple: iOS permissions and device services, including the iOS push-delivery system and optional local Face ID. App Store distribution is planned; Klose is not yet publicly available there.
- Cloudflare: delivery and protection of this website and routing of support email.
Providers receive information needed for their roles and may process operational data under their own agreements and policies. A US-hosted database does not mean every provider processes every record only in the United States.
Future optional verification: identity verification through Stripe is planned but is not active. This version does not send identity documents or verification selfies to Stripe. We will provide an updated notice and any required consent before enabling it.
Retention and deletion
- Peep location: a Peep lasts two hours. Expired locations stop being used for discovery immediately. A scheduled job deletes expired Peep rows every five minutes, so deletion from the active database can follow expiry by up to the next successful cleanup run. “Stop peeping” deletes that active location immediately. Starting or refreshing a Peep replaces its current location; refreshing an active Peep does not extend its expiry.
- Encounters and signals: encounters stop qualifying after 24 hours from the latest encounter. Signals expire 24 hours after sending. A five-minute scheduled cleanup removes expired encounters, signals and signal-limit events. Later encounters can refresh the pair’s 24-hour window.
- Profiles, photos, matches and messages: kept to operate the account until deleted through the available controls or account deletion. Unmatching or blocking hides the match and chat from both users but does not immediately erase the stored messages. Older replaced approved photos can remain in private storage until account deletion or administrative removal. Pending photos remain private while awaiting a check; this version has no separate automatic maximum retention period for pending uploads.
- Contacts and blocks: hidden-contact hashes remain until you clear the list or delete your account. Blocks remain until you unblock or the related account is deleted.
- Operational and safety records: short-lived chat-presence records and in-app events are periodically cleared. Other delivery records, reports, admin audit records and banned-phone hashes do not currently have an automatic age-based deletion schedule.
To delete your account: open Profile → Settings → Delete account, read the confirmation and enter a fresh code sent to your phone. Successful deletion removes your login account, stored profile photos, profile, Peeps, signals, encounters, matches and their messages, blocks, hidden contacts and push tokens from the active app services. If you cannot sign in, contact support@joinklose.com.
Safety exceptions: reports about an account may remain after deletion, with the deleted account’s profile link removed. Reports you filed retain the report itself but lose your reporter link, free-text note and chat link. Reports filed by others may still contain information they supplied. Administrative audit records can retain internal account identifiers. A banned phone’s hash may remain to prevent repeat sign-ups. Deleting the app from your phone does not delete your account.
Copies in providers’ backups or security logs may persist under their retention arrangements; account deletion is not a promise of immediate removal from every backup, log, lawful hold or another user’s copies.
Choices and state rights
You can edit supported profile and discovery settings, choose whether to show your name, stop Peeping, clear hidden contacts, block or report users, manage phone permissions and delete your account. Incognito limits visibility to people you have signaled; it does not make you anonymous to Klose.
Depending on your state and whether its law applies to Klose, you may have rights to access or obtain a copy of personal information, correct it, request deletion, appeal a refusal, and opt out of certain sales, targeted advertising or legally significant profiling. California residents may also have rights concerning disclosure of categories of information and limiting certain uses of sensitive personal information. We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising, so no advertising-sale opt-out is needed for the current app.
Email support@joinklose.com with “Privacy request” and the request you want to make. We may ask for reasonable verification of your identity or an authorized agent’s authority. Do not send a password or phone verification code. You may appeal a decision by replying with “Privacy appeal.” We will handle requests as required by applicable law and will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising rights.
This static website has no Klose tracking cookies or cross-site advertising code. It does not personalize content based on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals. Hosting providers may still process essential traffic and security information.
Adults, security and changes
Klose is for people 18 and older. We do not permit minors to create profiles. If you believe a minor is using Klose, use the Underage report option or contact support; an Underage report automatically hides the reported profile pending review.
We use restricted access, private photo storage and protected connections, but no service is completely secure. Photo screening and verification badges are not guarantees of identity, age or safety. We may revise this policy when the app or our practices change and will update the date and provide any notice or consent required by law.
